Ode to linen stitch

One of the many reasons I like going to the SB knitting group is seeing what everyone else is knitting. Last week, I saw California Erin knitting a bag in linen stitch with variegated yarn. I love the way the slipped stitches break up the variegation so that there are little pops of color in unexpected places. I also love the texture and how the slipped stitches result in a really nice dense solid knitted item, with out being overly stiff.

Here is a scarf I started. I've decided that I don't think the backside of the linen stitch (a.k.a. the "wrong" side) is ugly. In fact, I think it's kind of interesting.

All hail the linen stitch!

I love it! I made a scarf using this stitch, also known as the woven stitch, I used the wrong colors in stripes so now it sits in a box waiting to be given to someone as a gift. It's amazing how much that little slip st can make a huge difference in the variation of the veriagated yarn!
